COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Dec. 13, local students helped place 123 wreaths at Steptoe Cemetery while 25 veterans were honored at Dusty Cemetery for Wreaths Across America and organizers thanked donors and sponsors — marking the eighth year of the remembrance event. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Avista Utilities said that after Wednesday’s windstorm, about 4,000 customers (including the North end of Military Hill) will likely have power restored this weekend (according to a company update). Pullman Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Whitman County Commissioners approved a five-year homeless housing plan on Monday, Dec. 15 that will guide local efforts to strengthen services and prevent homelessness from 2025 to 2030. The plan calls on community members and service providers to join efforts to meet its goals. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Harvest Hill Wind opposed proposed changes to the county wind ordinance in a letter dated Dec. 12 + urged the Whitman County Planning Commission to reject a six-times turbine height setback that could force developers to seek state approval, as discussed at a Dec. 17 public hearing. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Utility crews are restoring power after Wednesday’s wind storm that left 18,000 residents without electricity, with Avista outages falling from 15,000 to 4,000 and Clearwater still serving 2,000 in Latah County — remaining outages in North Pullman and nearby areas are expected to be fixed soon.
