COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute will host its free Winter Soirée tomorrow from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the PCEI Greenhouse, featuring tapas, wine, cider, live music by Frogtown, a silent auction closing at 4:45 p.m. + a community dessert table.  Pullman Radio
  • Innovia Foundation is now accepting applications for its Community Grants Program aimed at nonprofits serving Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Applicants submitting by Jan. 9 for an early $1,000 drawing must meet the program’s Building Stability and Belonging theme before the final deadline on Feb. 6.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Local (Pullman) parents and teens are debating proposed social media restrictions aimed at protecting online users, while officials plan to discuss potential guidelines at upcoming community meetings.  KXLY
  • Palouse Habitat for Humanity hired Deanna Bren as its new development director. Bren, who left her role as Executive Director at United Way in Whitman County this week, will lead the annual Beans ‘n’ Jeans fundraiser & support the nonprofit’s work on building three new homes with local families.  Pullman Radio
  • Santa will visit the Artisans at the Dahmen Barn on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. arriving by fire truck at about 10:15 a.m.—free cookies, cocoa and reindeer snack crafts will be offered while children await their turn to meet him.  Pullman Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Palouse Choral Society will present its holiday concert 'And On Earth, Peace' today at 7:30 p.m. in Simpson United Methodist Church, Pullman, with a second performance on Dec. 13 and doors opening at 7:00 p.m. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $8 for students.  Pullman Radio
  • Irish trio Everdream returns with a Celtic Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 13 featuring performances at 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. at the University of Idaho Administration Building Auditorium in Moscow, offering traditional melodies, new songs, and Irish storytelling for a family audience.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four local high school teams won academic state titles on Dec. 11. The Colfax boys and girls cross country teams claimed (2B) titles, the Pullman girls swim team earned (2A), and the Oakesdale volleyball team secured (1B) honors.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington announced that several Colfax Council on Aging programs will transfer to new providers in Whitman County over the coming weeks. MedStar will take charge of senior transportation & Rural Resources Community Action will manage kinship programs as ALTCEW works to secure nutrition services.  Whitman County Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kinsey Dewan, a nurse at Pullman Regional Hospital’s BirthPlace, was honored with the DAISY Award after a patient praised her kind care during a challenging birth where a newborn had breathing issues (she has worked in maternity care since 2020).  Pullman Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. John-Endicott Eagles boys basketball started the season with an 82-46 loss on Dec. 5 and a 46-28 win on Dec. 9, and will face the Garfield-Palouse Vikings at home today + the team is set for additional games soon.  Whitman County Gazette
  • The WIAA is reviewing a change to girls' sports eligibility rules that may impact local school athletic programs, with further details expected to be released soon.  KXLY
