COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pullman hosts a fall festival from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.—featuring carnival games, face painting, snacks, and trick-or-treating—with free entry given a food donation.  Pullman Radio
  • The 7th Annual Pig Roast & Silent Auction fundraiser to support volunteer firefighters will take place this Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Rosalia fire station — the event is hosted by Whitman County Fire District 7.  Pullman Radio
  • Candidates running for office in Pullman will team up on Saturday to collect donations for local food banks at the Pullman Safeway—the drive will accept cash and items from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as a non-political effort to help the community.  Pullman Radio
  • The Lewis-Clark Valley Healthcare Foundation awarded a $25,000 grant to Circles of Caring Adult Day Health Foundation Inc. in Pullman and a $12,000 grant to the Rosalia Volunteer Firefighters Association to purchase an automated CPR device—both awards will support health services and safety for adults and elders in Whitman County.  Whitman County Gazette

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon announced its new 28,000 square foot delivery station began operations this month in Pullman to boost same-day delivery of essentials to rural areas on the Palouse. The facility is part of a $4 billion investment aimed at creating full-time and part-time jobs for local residents.  Whitman County Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Friends of Hospice is hosting a free screening of Disney-Pixar’s Coco on Saturday, November 1 at 10:00 a.m. at The Cordova Theater in Pullman—guests are invited to bring a photo for a community ofrenda and listen to a speaker explain the Día de los Muertos tradition. Refreshments will be provided after the film and children must be accompanied by an adult.  Pullman Radio
  • APOD Productions is presenting 'Enchanted April' by Matthew Barber—based on the novel by Elizabeth von Arnim—at Viola Community Center with one performance today at 7:00 pm and additional shows scheduled at 7:00 pm on November 1, 6, 7, and 8 and at 1:30 pm on November 1, 2, and 8.  Pullman Radio
  • Fourteen high school marching bands from Washington and Idaho will compete in the Bands of America Regional Championships tomorrow inside the Kibbie Dome at the University of Idaho — the event starts at 10:45 a.m. with finals at 7:00 p.m. where the UI Marching Band will also perform.  Pullman Radio
  • Artisans at Dahmen Barn will open a November student exhibit and host a Souper Bowl fundraiser on November 2 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The event sells $25 tickets (covering soup, bread, dessert, and a student-made pottery bowl) to support MudBog Studio equipment maintenance and arts scholarships, and the exhibit and pottery sale will run through November 30.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The St. John school district hired new leaders including Superintendent, Vice Principal and Principal Tina Strong and HR Director Michelle Zuckerman to boost career readiness programs for students. They are planning to add programs such as agricultural technology, robotics and metal shop—along with a renewable levy on the Feb. ballot to fund more opportunities.  Whitman County Gazette
  • WSU President Betsy Cantwell created a new administrative post—Chief Administrative Officer and Vice President of Institutional Affairs—to modernize operations and improve communication at the university. She hired her Chief of Staff, Kerri Davidson from Utah State University, who began her role this month.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washington studded snow tire season will start Saturday — studs will be legal from November through March — and Idaho began its season last month.  Pullman Radio
