COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local residents oppose a proposed housing project — they have expressed concerns about its potential impact on the neighborhood and await further review.  KXLY
  • Whitman County Fire District 12 will hold a retirement celebration Saturday from 4:00 to 7:00 at Fire Station 3 on the North Side of Pullman to honor four longtime members—Jeff Druffel, Lee Druffel, Roger McKiernan, and Rick Marthe; the event will feature a BBQ with hamburgers and hot dogs and a display of the newest firefighting brush truck.  Pullman Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local organizers will host spooky ghost tours at Riverfront Park — tour guides will share local ghost stories during the event.  KXLY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Dignified Workday is a new program that helps local workers build skills+ improve job opportunities and prepare for better careers. Officials said it will soon offer hands-on training to support career growth and boost employment prospects.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pullman High School Orchestra will hold Disney & Desserts tomorrow from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. where visitors can enjoy Disney music, character visits and treats while supporting the orchestra program; tickets cost $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults.  Pullman Radio
  • Local students have been asked by ITD to suggest names for new snowplows – the department plans to review the ideas as winter approaches.  KXLY
  • Palouse Pathways is hosting the College Within Reach: Paying for College Fair on October 18 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the 1912 Center in Moscow to help students and families find funds for college. Middle and high school attendees will have access to guest speakers, one-on-one FAFSA help, and college booths (gas gift cards will be provided for families traveling from out of town).  Pullman Radio

  • Brandon Kruger, 39, from Pullman is running as a first-time candidate for Director District 5—he brings 13 years of local public works experience and operates his own contracting firm while volunteering with youth sports.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Christopher Clausen is running for Hospital District 3. The 51-year-old public school teacher from Colfax has 29 years of experience and has served as a foster caregiver, youth sports coach, and fundraiser, and he has been married to Melani for 12 years with one son.  Whitman County Gazette
