COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Idaho Foodbank will distribute free food boxes—containing fresh produce, frozen meats, dairy and dry goods—at the Latah County Fairgrounds in Moscow on September 22 starting at 10:00 a.m.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WSU’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences is hosting its first Apple Cup Harvest Market this weekend where cougar—made foods and campus products including research hive honey will be available. Dr. Priya Chakrabarti Basu will lead hands-on activities and Kathryn Grandy from Cosmic Crisp Apples will distribute apple baskets while a hot air balloon will circle Pullman tomorrow at 6 a.m.  KLEW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The weather forecast shows that this weekend will change from warm and sunny to windy and dusty—Saturday mornings will bring stronger gusts with tailgate temperatures in the 70s and game kickoff near 80, and by Sunday early showers will move east as temperatures drop over 10 degrees for a cool start to fall. Residents should plan for travel challenges and intermittent fire danger in Central Washington.  KXLY
  • Steptoe Butte State Park north of Colfax is set to reopen in late October—state officials said the park had been closed most of the year after February’s flood damaged the site and crews repaved the access road.  Pullman Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • A bat found downtown tested positive for rabies and is the first such case in Whitman County—health officials urge anyone who had direct contact with a bat in Pullman in the past month to see a healthcare provider.  Pullman Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today at 4:20 p.m., a military aircraft will fly over Pullman during the Apple Cup football game, as announced by Washington State University on Friday. The flyover will occur just before the Cougars host Washington inside Martin Stadium on Gesa Field.  Pullman Radio
  • WSU officials announced that fans at Martin Stadium are now allowed to buy alcohol throughout the venue—this new policy takes effect today and is expected to boost convenience during games.  KXLY
