COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today at Liberty Aquatic Center, the Doggie Dip event will let local dog owners bring their pets for a fun and safe water activity—promising a cool break in the summer heat.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washington State University’s Gamma Iota Omicron fraternity lost recognition for the fall semester after hazing new members last spring—its members are required to take anti-hazing classes and the group remains on probation through the upcoming spring.  Pullman Radio
  • The University of Idaho will host AsiaPOP! from August 25 to September 12 to celebrate Studio Ghibli’s films with free cultural exhibits, film screenings, and talks — the event is open to the public.  Pullman Radio
  • Local schools will add new safety measures for the upcoming year to improve security—officials say the new protocols will be in place when classes resume.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Whitman County Public Health has found a toxic algae bloom in water samples taken at Nisqually John Landing along the Lower Snake River—an advisory warns residents and pet owners to stay out of the water and not to eat shellfish from areas with scum. The bloom appears intermittently from Nisqually John Landing to Little Goose Dam.  Pullman Radio
