COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Extreme Team is renovating a local veteran's home in Pullman today—project details and updates on the work are expected soon.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Treehouse for Kids, a nonprofit that helps foster students graduate high school, lost almost $7.5 million in state funding—cutting half its staff in Spokane and suspending services in Eastern Washington counties except Spokane, which affected up to 150 foster children. CEO Dawn Rains paused new student referrals as the organization works to rebuild its capacity and plans to resume enrollment soon.  KXLY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews are working to contain a wildfire burning south of Dusty that is now 40% contained on 6,600 acres in Whitman County. The fire began on Wednesday when an old motorhome caught fire on State Route 127 near Central Ferry—evacuation orders have been lifted and crews are mopping up hotspots.  Pullman Radio
  • Crews are gaining ground on the Central Ferry wildfire burning south of Dusty in Whitman County—updated mapping shows the fire now covers 6,600 acres and is 40% contained. They are mopping up hotspots, have dug a fire trail around the perimeter, and all evacuation notices have been lifted.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Candidate filing for local tax district seats in Idaho starts Monday and runs until Friday, August 29th at 5:00 p.m.—this filing covers dozens of positions including an open race for Moscow Mayor after Art Bettge announced he is not running for re-election.  Pullman Radio

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Neighbors in Pullman have voiced concerns about a proposed housing development—residents worry the project could change the neighborhood if it moves forward.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • On August 8, the Pullman Regional Hospital Foundation held its 5th Quarter Rally and raised over $76,000 for a Regional High School Athletic Training Program—supporting 750 student-athletes in Colton, Garfield-Palouse, Potlatch and Pullman districts with concussion testing, preventive care and training support during practices and competitions.  Pullman Radio
