COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local officials and residents gathered to honor a fallen sheriff’s sergeant during a memorial event—organizers said the service recognized the officer’s sacrifice.  KXLY
  • Residents in Pullman will join the National Lentil Festival on Saturday, August 16 from noon to 10 p.m. at Reaney Park; the event will feature sports tournaments at 9 a.m., a Grand Parade at 11 a.m. on Main Street, and family activities including cooking demonstrations, live music and mascot visits — an outing for all ages.  KXLY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A small plane carrying four people from Pullman crashed into parked aircraft at Kalispell City Airport at about 2 p.m.—the accident sparked a large fire that was quickly contained and caused only minor injuries to two passengers.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today Pullman’s Concerts in the Park series features Soulstice performing classic rock and R&B at Reaney Park; the free event starts at 6:00 p.m.—residents are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for the outdoor show.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pullman Public Schools is hiring substitute teachers, paraeducators, custodians, bus drivers—and more for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. Applicants must pass background checks and can pick up an application at the district office at 240 SE Dexter St in Pullman.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The repaving of nine miles of US195 near Pullman has been shut down when union workers from the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302 went on strike—project work from State Route 27 to Babbitt Road was planned for evenings and was scheduled to finish later in September.  Pullman Radio

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In Whitman County, home prices hit their lowest level this year at $375,000, down $12,000 from June but up $25,000 from last year — 52 homes were on the market in July with an average selling time of two months.  Pullman Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former WSU quarterback John Mateer said his Venmo texts were inside jokes—not sports bets—and he never wagered on college football while he now plays for Oklahoma. Oklahoma Athletics stated there is no NCAA investigation.  KXLY
  • Washington State University’s offensive lineman, a late bloomer in college football, is showing steady improvement and will likely get more playing time as the season continues—coaches are watching his progress closely.  KXLY
