COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Pullman's National Lentil Festival is back as a two-day event this weekend. Friday at the Neill Library parking lot will have music, games and a beer garden (3:00 to 10:00) along with a Lentil Crawl, and Saturday will feature a fun run at 7:30, a parade at 11:00 and events at Reaney Park with food, live music, free chili and sports tournaments. - ➤ The Whitman County League of Women Voters is hosting its annual planning meeting potluck today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Community Congregational United Church of Christ at 525 NE Campus Ave in Pullman — organizers and attendees will work together to plan events for the coming year while sharing home-prepared dishes as the League provides drinks and tableware. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Pullman Police confirmed that an 11-year-old boy, last seen riding a black and green bike on NE Hill at 1 p.m. Sunday, was found safe at 6:30 p.m. KXLY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WSU students will have a free self-defense class tomorrow from 4:00 to 5:30 in the PE Building hosted by the WSU Kinesiology Activity Program+ non-students can join for $10. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Pullman High School will confirm new coaching hires at this week’s School Board meeting. Amy Caessens returns as head swim coach after winning the 2021 state title — Seth Paine takes over as girls basketball coach, replacing Angie Barbour — as part of the school’s athletic updates. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Washington State University said that a federal rule to limit student loans to $200,000 starting next July might make it hard for some students to go to medical school. The university noted that in 2024 only about 44% of its medical students borrowed that much and warned that the cap could slow access for students without family support, savings, or scholarships. - ➤ Washington State University will swear in Assistant Police Chief Dawn Daniels as its new police chief on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. inside the Holland Library Atrium; she replaces retiring Gary Jenkins, and Captain Harry Smith (from Augusta University Police Department) will also be sworn in as assistant chief.
