COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Longtime Pullman residents Pat and Laurie Caraher, banker Gary Schell and his wife Sue, former WSU chancellor Dave Cillay, and track star Henry Rono were named to the 2025 Pullman Walk of Fame. A ceremony will be held at the Pullman Depot and Heritage Center on August 15th at 6:00—each inductee will receive a plaque. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Today the annual Stuff the Bus school supplies drive begins as the Kiwanis Clubs of Pullman, Moscow and Colfax lead buses to collect donations for students in local school districts; the Pullman bus will be at the Wheatland Mall from 2:00 p.m. — 5:00 p.m., while buses in Moscow at Staples and in Colfax at Rosauers will also be collecting supplies through Saturday. - ➤ Local musical duo Whiskey & Wine will perform today at 6:00 p.m. in Pine Street Plaza in downtown Pullman as part of Music on Main. Pullman Radio
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A new report shows Washington lost over 3,700 farms between 2017 and 2022 with an average of two farms lost each day, based on USDA data and a WSDA report led by Rep. Dent. The report links rising production costs and strict regulations to growing financial pressures on farmers in the state. Big Country News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WSU will soon begin building a $7.6M, 5,000-square-foot expansion at its Nuclear Science Center to add three hot cells and a chemistry wet lab to the campus research facility — construction will take one year but the new labs will not be operational until up to five years from now — boosting the capacity of its 1-megawatt TRIGA reactor. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ This summer, over 1,000 endangered sockeye salmon crossed Lower Granite Dam on the Lower Snake River to reach spawning grounds in Central Idaho, far exceeding the decade average of 200. The salmon swim 900 miles—climbing 6,000 feet—to reach the Sawtooth Basin, and the first fish entered a trap in Stanley on July 23. Pullman Radio

- ➤ WSU football is balancing incoming transfers with returning players this season — the team is adjusting its roster for a stronger lineup. KXLY
- ➤ WSU and Aramark have submitted a one-year pilot program request to let Cougar fans buy beer and wine in general seating during football games this fall — the program will not include the student section and is now under review by the Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board. KXLY
