ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Whitman County firefighters responded to a brush fire on Whelan Road near Pullman—by 2:52 p.m. on August 5, the city said the fire was under control and expected to be completely out within the hour.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Platinum-recording artist Andy Grammer received an Honorary Alumnus Award on August 3 from the Washington State University Alumni Association after his hit song ‘Back Home’ became a beloved part of Cougar game days. He celebrated his new Coug status with fans during his Sunday night show in Woodinville — marking a proud moment for the artist and the university.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Preliminary Whitman County primary results show that in District 4, Deena Bayoumi leads with 48 percent and Hanna Martian trails with 32 percent, while in District 5, Stephanie Horn has 44 percent and Brandon Kruger stands at 32 percent. Mail ballots are still coming in—final counts will be announced at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8—determining which candidates advance to the November general election.  Whitman County Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Aug. 5 primary election in Pullman saw contests for Ward 1 and Ward 3 council seats, with Bryan MacDonald receiving 430 votes and Tawny Szumlas receiving 203 votes—candidates who led will advance to the general election. Other candidates continue their campaigns—each aiming to contribute to the city’s future.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Chad Whetzel leads the race for Whitman County Commissioner Position No. 3 with 1,288 votes out of 2,257 counted so far while Cody Finch and Senter trail with 466 and 428 votes respectively. Whetzel remains optimistic as additional ballots will be tallied in the coming days—Senter plans to strengthen his campaign in Pullman.  Whitman County Gazette
  • City officials released documents that detail plans for transporting convicted killer Bryan Kohberger from Pennsylvania to Moscow in an operation called "Operation Turtle Shell." The records also show that Pullman Police reviewed an October 2021 burglary report and found no evidence linking him to that incident.  KXLY

  • The Zags will play Oklahoma on November 8 in a game that promises tough competition—both teams are preparing for the contest. Local fans are excited to see the matchup and its potential impact on the season.  KXLY
