- ➤ Camping is now open at Kamiak Butte County Park after water restrictions ended on July 28 — water has been restored, tested and found safe, and day-use areas offer barbecue grills and flush restrooms while fire restrictions continue to limit solid fuel fires. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pullman will host a free clothing event tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Guests needing an invite for entry from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.—available at the Community Action Center, Family Promise Day Center, and Moscow Palouse Care Network—will receive a bag to fill with essentials. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washington State University will host an open house at the Jewett Observatory on Saturday, August 2 from 9:00 to 11:55 p.m. Pullman residents can view the moon, planets and stars with the campus 12-inch telescope. Pullman Radio
- ➤ The St. John-Endicott School Board approved the budgets on July 28, with Endicott receiving a $3.16 million fund for 160 students and St. John a $4.39 million fund for about 130 students as part of efforts to boost fund balances. School officials said the St. John roof will be repaired by August 8 and also announced new hires for ASB coordination and math teaching. Whitman County Gazette
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Palouse Land Trust received nearly $200,000 from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust to fund conservation projects in Whitman and Latah Counties and north-central Idaho. Executive Director Lovina England said the grant will support expanding outreach and professional staff allocation while the organization aims to triple its land conservation portfolio in the next five years (to meet growing service demands). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Whitman County Public Health in Colfax said that two epi-linked whooping cough cases have put the county back in outbreak status—residents in close contact with a sick person are urged to talk to their healthcare provider. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Whitman County Public Health received a $10,000 grant from Lewis-Clark Valley Healthcare Foundation to support its vaccine program for underinsured children and low-income adults at community clinics in Colfax and Pullman. Vaccinations are offered one day each week and about 300 people per year, including some Idaho residents who work or attend school, will benefit from the program. Whitman County Gazette

- ➤ Washington State University is expanding its Name, Image, and Likeness program by adding two new positions—Director of Playfly Max and Director of NIL Services—to support Cougar student-athletes.
