CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Crime reports in Whitman County fell 4% last year with thefts and car thefts dropping and drug cases nearly doubling—while Pullman police recorded a 16% overall drop in crime despite a 50% rise in drug cases and an increase in burglaries. Pullman Radio
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washington State University’s M.T. James Insect Collection in Pullman will use a $250,000 donation from longtime supporters Terry and Faye Whitworth to install a new compactor storage system that may double its capacity—allowing scientists to store more insect specimens for study. Pullman Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge over the South Fork of the Palouse River in downtown Pullman has been reset and is back open after a February flood floated the span off its supports. Wasankari Construction reset the 15-ton—65-foot long bridge on Tuesday using cribs, airbags and steel beams, and officials say it will be closed briefly one last time for final repair work. - ➤ The Pullman Police Department is holding training drills today in St. John at the Port of Whitman County’s building (formerly the St. John Café), and the public is advised that the police presence on Main Street is only a drill. Pullman Radio
