CRIME NEWS

  • A man appeared on arson charges in Pullman and police are investigating the incident+ collecting evidence.  KXLY
  • Pullman Police are searching for a 17-year-old runaway girl from Pullman who was last seen Thursday in Moscow—she is described as 5-foot-3 and about 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes and may be staying with friends, so anyone with information should call 509-334-0802.  KXLY
  • Best-selling author James Patterson and journalist Vicky Ward will release their book The Idaho Four An American Tragedy on Monday — the work details the Bryan Kohberger murder case in which four University of Idaho students were killed in a Moscow rental home — and follows Kohberger's guilty plea last week.  Pullman Radio
  • Pullman police arrested Benjamin Rinehart in January after a camera caught him slashing tires on Spaulding Street and a Whitman County Superior Court Jury convicted him of felony vandalism last month for causing thousands of dollars in damage on College Hill—he received a three-month jail sentence, one-year probation, nearly $2,500 in restitution, and must undergo a mental health evaluation.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new online tool from HazingInfo.org lets families view hazing records for campus groups by searching for colleges to see past incidents and current prevention rules. Jolayne Houtz created the tool after her son died and said it would grow with help from students and faculty as all colleges had to share hazing reports by December 2024.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal funding fight is putting Pullman's programs at risk as officials delay a decision on upcoming cuts + local leaders say more details on affected services will be shared soon.  KXLY
  • A Pullman city council member said local residents are disturbed by WSU fireworks at Cougar sports events and called for code changes to stop the displays. Councilman Nate Weller said he has heard complaints for 11 years and noted the unscheduled fireworks shake windows—he added that the council plans a public meeting so residents can share their concerns.  KXLY
