CULTURE NEWS

  • Officials and local artists will unveil a new art installation in Five Mile Prairie—highlighting local talent and adding visual interest to the area.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pullman's indoor pool is now open after a week-long closure for ventilation repairs, and plans are underway for Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories to buy and operate the facility as a public pool. The Pullman School Board will decide on the sale and extend the current agreement during a meeting Monday (6:30 p.m. at the high school).  Pullman Radio
  • Fireworks sales will begin Tuesday in Pullman—legal fireworks may be discharged only on Thursday July 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on Friday July 4 from 9:00 a.m. to midnight. Violators risk a 100 dollar fine or misdemeanor charges.  Pullman Radio
  • The Whitman County Commissioners will meet Monday morning at 10:15 a.m. in the courthouse in Colfax to vote on extending the six-month moratorium on new wind turbines while the Planning Commission updates regulations. Steelhead Americas, a Portland company planning a wind farm near Kamiak Butte north of Pullman, has begun seeking state approval as local citizens and the coalition Save the Palouse oppose the project.  Pullman Radio
  • The Washington State Department of Licensing warns residents about scam texts that claim unpaid parking tickets and misuse its name by referencing a different agency—officials say the messages are fake. Community members are urged to ignore such texts and not click any links.  Pullman Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington will offer free memory screenings at Neill Public Library on Monday, June 30, from 1:00—4:30 p.m.; walk-ins are accepted and appointments can be registered ahead.  Pullman Radio
