- ➤ In May, treasure hunter James Murphy found a flawless college ring on the Tekoa High softball fields that belonged to William “Bink” Wall—a former Eastern Washington State College football star who died in Vietnam. Murphy tracked down Wall’s brother and widow and returned the keepsake without expecting a reward. Whitman County Gazette
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Promote Pullman is inviting local creatives to join a free weaving lesson at Art on the Plaza at High Street Plaza from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. tomorrow. Tea Bracelets will lead the lesson and offer art kits while live music plays in downtown Pullman. Pullman Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Traffic delays will continue for months on Northeast Terre View Drive as JR Construction installs a $1.7 million water main that will connect Airport Drive to the city water supply. The project started May 29 and is set to take 80 working days (excluding weekends, holidays, and extreme weather delays) and will include upgrades such as new fire hydrants, pavement, and sidewalks. - ➤ The Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Pullman is expected to reopen by late August after it was dislodged during February floods. Public Works Director Sean Wells said city crews and contractors will move the bridge once final permits from state agencies are approved — with contractor selection planned for early July and total costs expected under $350,000. - ➤ The city of Pullman hired Motley-Motley Inc. to repave parts of Orchard Drive and Valley Road, and sections will be closed until August 15 for the work—drivers can still use detours in the work zone. Whitman County Gazette
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics in Colfax got a silver award for the 2025 Critical Access Hospital Achievement of Excellence from the Washington State Hospital Association — it was honored for high scores in 14 areas such as workplace safety, making right diagnoses, and fair care — in a statewide recognition of rural hospitals.
