ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Washington’s latest carbon auction raised $322 million by selling current allowances at $58.51 each, and critics say Ecology’s program may raise gas prices (some predict a 6-cent increase per gallon). The auction also sold future allowances for use starting in 2028 and critics argue that the CO2 tax may push fuel costs higher compared to nearby areas.  Big Country News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The park board approved a new zip line for a local park, and officials said it will be built soon to give residents a fun outdoor recreation option.  KXLY
  • The City of Pullman hired local company Motley-Motley Inc. to repave sections of Orchard Drive and Valley Road on College Hill, with work starting Monday. Orchard Drive will be closed to through traffic between Stadium Way and Valley Road and Valley Road will be closed from Orchard to Cove Way — detours will allow local access until work ends by August 15th.  Pullman Radio

  • WSU men's basketball announced today that it hired Orlando Johnson as its new general manager—officials expect his leadership to strengthen the team.  KXLY
