COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office learned last month that roughly 50 dogs have been living in an Albion home illegally under city code and is working with the owners to rehome them for adoption. Paws and Claws Pet Rescue in Pasco and the Whitman County Humane Society in Pullman are assisting the effort—deputies are picking up several dogs each week while a GoFundMe page helps cover rehoming costs. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Pete Chittenden was hired by the board last week as the new executive director and started on Monday — he had volunteered with the chamber for four years and replaces longtime director Marie Dymkoski. Tim Braun was also hired as the new business and communications manager and he worked with Chittenden at DABCO property management, replacing Audrey Hughes. Pullman Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson filed a response to Bryan Kohberger’s request to delay his trial for four murder charges and one burglary charge from the November 2022 killings of four University students—he said postponing the trial would harm the victims’ right to a timely process and that moving forward as planned may reduce future media harm with the trial set for August. - ➤ The school district announced changes at SPS+adjusting class schedules and course offerings that will affect students, and officials said more details will be shared soon. KXLY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Latah County Sheriff’s Office Jail in Moscow will become a court holding and daytime booking facility before October, with local inmates sent to a jail in Lewiston because the 1972 building failed inspection and upgrading it would cost about 13 million dollars. Arrests made during normal court hours will be processed in Moscow then transported, while after hours arrests will go to a separate valley facility—county officials are working with city and county partners on a long-term jail solution. - ➤ WSU President Betsy Cantwell made administration changes by replacing longtime spokesman Phil Weiler with Pam Scott—who worked at Eastern Washington University and the University of Arizona—and who took over marketing and communications Tuesday. Pullman Radio

- ➤ The 2025 Starter Home Report by Construction Coverage found that aspiring buyers in Washington face tough challenges as the state ranked second worst for starter home purchases, with high median prices and low homeownership rates affecting affordability—Idaho ranked fifth worst.
