- ➤ Longtime resident Fern Feenan was named grand marshal of the Battle Days Parade this year in Rosalia. A Pullman High School graduate who has designed floats for 12 years and worked with local schools and clubs, she said she values living in a town where neighbors care for each other—her work shows her deep commitment to the community. - ➤ The free Snake River Family Festival will be held on June 14 at Boyer Park and Marina, 1753 Granite Road, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—it will feature live music by Sammy Eubanks, river exhibits, a free barbecue lunch, and Ferdinand ice cream while supplies last. Attendees can win a half-day guided jet boat tour by getting their event passport stamped at exhibitor booths, but tours of Lower Granite Dam will not be offered. Whitman County Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Whitman County Commissioners approved closing Fairbanks Road from Tuesday, June 10 through Thursday, June 12 for its first penetration shot to test the road's pressure absorption — and county Public Works confirmed that residents will still have access to their driveways — ensuring homes are not cut off during the closure. - ➤ City records show there is no letter of resignation from former City Administrator Mike Urban, who claims he was fired while the city maintains he resigned on May 5, and city clerk Dee Stiles-Elliot said records do not include a resignation letter. The city is still working on providing Urban's file, with further records expected following previous voicemails, emails, and press releases. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Whitman County officials approved a fee schedule that raised building and planning fees about 15% at a June 2 meeting—marking the first update in eight years. The county also awarded a surplus sale property bid to Milo Flint for $6,203—next steps will include contacting him for payment. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Today, Washington state agencies launched the Secure Your Load for Safer Roads Campaign to urge drivers to secure cargo after unsecured loads caused 337 crashes and 40% of roadway litter last year. The campaign will include increased patrols by WSP troopers and free cargo nets and ratchet straps at community events in Whitman County throughout the summer — steps aimed at keeping roads safe.
