COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Friends of Hospice is hosting a free and confidential grief support group today at Bishop Place Independent Living from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday until July 2 — Pullman residents are invited to join the 5-week series and pre-register for a spot.  Pullman Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • A new hazing investigation is underway at WSU involving the Gamma Iota Omicron fraternity for an alleged hazing incident from this spring — no further details have been posted on the university website.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two online petitions emerged after Pullman School District eliminated the high school athletics and activities director position held by Wendy Kruger in late April due to a budget shortfall—prompting hundreds to protest at the board meeting on April 30. One petition calls for reversing the decision while another demands greater transparency and public access at future meetings.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Port of Whitman County seeks public input on future uses for the historic Oakesdale Mill after purchasing it from the Innovia Foundation. An online survey is open through July + a study is underway to guide the mill's future purpose.  Pullman Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gentiva Hospice staff will lead a caregiver education session at Whitman County Library in Colfax today from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.—the session covers hospice medications, common myths and best practices for supporting patients nearing end-of-life care. Lunch will be provided at the event.  Pullman Radio
  • Washington State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Pullman is treating record numbers of wild animals, including baby raccoons, squirrels, and owls. The surge is linked to the closure of another rehab facility in central Washington and many animals are coming from far away (Dr. Marcie Logsdon advises calling local wildlife rehab before intervening).  KXLY
