- ➤ Whitman Recovery Community Center will open tomorrow at 226 E. Main St in downtown Pullman from 1 to 4 p.m. It will offer free music, food, games, and peer support services—providing a safe space for people seeking help in recovery. Pullman Radio
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The rehabilitated rail service in Palouse is set to begin by Sunday, June 1 as Bennett Lumber Products funded track improvements to move lumber. The Washington, Idaho and Montana Railway signed an interchange agreement with the Spokane, Spangle and Palouse Railway on May 19, with the agreement taking effect on May 22—project manager Maddi Farnsworth said a few final administrative steps remain. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Washington State University honored Fallen Cougars from Washington State College with presentations at the Pullman Depot Heritage Freight Room on May 22. The event featured research by graduate students and remarks by history professor Raymond Sun—who created the digital memorial project—highlighting stories of war heroes such as Lieutenant Colonel Harold Mizony, who earned a silver star and purple heart. - ➤ Washington State University announced it will dissolve the Office of the Chancellor effective June 1 — a change that will move Student Affairs and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art to the Office of the Provost to improve management and support for students and programs. KXLY

- ➤ Former City Administrator Mike Urban left his job on May 5, with the city saying he quit while Urban claimed he was fired — city officials have not provided the resignation letter or public records to clarify his separation. - ➤ The Port of Whitman County received $500,000 from the EPA for Brownsfield cleanup to ready a site near Front Street and South Main for a planned clinic and pharmacy in St. John — hospital commissioners met on May 21 to review steps for future design work. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Pullman will start its Outdoor Irrigation Season on June 1 and new rules for unattended watering will be enforced to protect the Grande Ronde aquifer—its only source of drinking water. Even numbered addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday while odd numbered addresses can only irrigate on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m., with no irrigation allowed on Monday.
