BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Moscow community celebrated the grand opening of a new Home Depot store on May 21 after a year of construction; about 200 people attended a board-cutting ceremony with Mayor Art Bettge and Representative Lori McCann, and the store will create 140 jobs while donating ($5,000) to the local American Legion post. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pullman School District officials named Kamiak Elementary Principal Evan Hecker as the new Assistant Principal — Athletics & Activities Director at Pullman High pending board approval. He will take over the role in July if the board, which meets next week, approves the appointment. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Four-time regional Spelling Bee champion Navtaj Singh—an 8th grader at Lincoln Middle School—will make his final appearance at the national competition starting Tuesday in Washington D.C. He has qualified for nationals every year since 5th grade and tied for 12th in his last event. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Ryan Mulvey, principal at West Valley High School in Spokane, was picked as Pullman School District’s next Assistant Superintendent and awaits final board approval next week — he will replace retiring Dr. Roberta Kramer and begin in July. Pullman Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Traffic delays will occur on Grimes Way at WSU next week from Tuesday through Friday due to Avista utilities working between Olympia Avenue and Dairy Road — flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone — so drivers should plan for delays. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Pullman Fire Department crews completed a four-day vehicle extrication training last week—this annual drill gave them hands-on practice in extraction techniques for accident responses. KLEW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Registration is open for the 2025 Pink Tea and Pink Cocktail event on October 17 at ICCU Arena, where Gritman Medical Center will host a fundraiser to help community members battling cancer.
