COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Garfield Ladies Aid is holding a rummage sale today at Garfield Christian Fellowship from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during Garfield May Day, pausing for the parade + proceeds will support a sewing school in Pakistan and local needs after donating 16 machines to graduates in June.  Pullman Radio
  • Community volunteer Jackie McIver was nominated as this week’s Community Hero by Brenda McIntosh for her work with local nonprofits (including the Valley Breast Cancer Support Group) and for creating gift bags and cozy items that inspire others to help. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Gather and Grow festival is now open in Pullman today, offering a community event that invites residents to join locally organized activities.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Moscow High School student Acer Bearman-Drummond was named a U.S. Presidential Scholar semifinalist on Friday, May 15. He is one of seven statewide and the only local contender from the Palouse.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local law enforcement is holding a large-scale active shooter training exercise today at a designated simulation area + the drill will involve multiple departments to improve emergency response and community safety.  KXLY
  • State Route 194 (west of Pullman) has been closed since mid-April after a March flood washed out a culvert near Union Center. Repair work is nearly complete and officials say it will reopen Tuesday afternoon or evening with detours on U.S. Highway 195.  Pullman Radio
  • Local first responders in Pullman conducted a drill today to test their response plan for potential mass violence — the exercise supports ongoing community safety efforts.  KXLY

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Port of Whitman County purchased 113 acres across the road from the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport on Friday to develop a new business park. Officials are now conducting an environmental assessment of the site.  Pullman Radio
