- ➤ Pullman community organizers are asking for volunteers to help with the annual 4th of July Celebration in Sunnyside Park—assignments include tasks such as set-up and clean-up for the upcoming event. Pullman Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Pullman man, 28-year-old Jayson Dale Kramlich, was arrested on May 4 after police responded to a domestic dispute in which he barricaded himself with a knife and allegedly assaulted an officer — he will be arraigned at 9 a.m. May 30 and is held on a $5,000 bail. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Garfield man Fritz Raymond Henn, 51, appeared in Colfax court on May 12 after he allegedly pointed a pistol at a passing vehicle near Grumpy’s Tavern—his arraignment is set for today at 10:30 a.m. as he remains held without bail on charges of attempted assault and carrying a weapon in restricted areas. - ➤ The Pullman Chamber of Commerce is hosting a walkable art gallery in downtown Pullman that celebrates local art and creativity from May 11 to June 17—tomorrow the event will feature a special evening Art Walk from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Pullman Radio
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A USDA Water Supply Outlook Report released last week predicts that low snowpack and warm weather will lead to a dry summer that could lower crop yields and profits in our region. Palouse Grain Growers’ Assistant Manager Scott Beeson said farmers are cautiously optimistic about spring conditions but warned that a lack of June rains — if it happens — may reduce yields. - ➤ The Palouse City Council approved negotiations for supplemental law enforcement from the Whitman County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, May 13 as Councilman Robert Brooks and Councilwoman Leslie Sena moved the measure—two residents also raised concerns about local police reports. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Pullman Public Works Director Sean Wells said the downtown Riverwalk bridge has been closed since Feb 23 after a flood because city teams are inspecting its parts and repair needs. City officials have not set a timeline for reopening as permits are still under review. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Dozens of candidates filed for elected offices last week in Whitman County, with filings for positions including county, hospital, and school roles—races with three or more candidates will appear on the Aug. 5 primary ballot and only the top two will advance to the Nov. 4 general election. - ➤ On April 13th, a 12-year-old girl who had been treated for mental health issues at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center died by suicide after jumping from the parking garage, prompting an investigation into patient care and sparking community calls for better teen crisis support—local officials are reviewing current mental health protocols. - ➤ Washington State University Athletics signed a ten-year media rights and ticket sales contract with Playfly Sports that will start in July.
