GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Christy Hughes has been hired as the new executive director of the Whitman County Rural Library District after Cody Allen resigned—she brings eight years of public library experience in marketing, public relations, and outreach. She will be welcomed at a reception on June 22 at 4:00 p.m. at Colfax Library. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Pullman City Council faces crowded primaries as four candidates filed for the Pioneer Hill seat held by Trymaine Gaither and four filed for the seat now occupied by Carla De Lira. One candidate filed for Megan Guido’s seat and may run unopposed if no one else files (filing ends at 5:00 today), while other local races show little contest. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Officials are trying to fix the Pine Street pedestrian bridge after it became wedged off its abutments during the February flood. City staff must get permits from state and federal agencies before using a crane to reset the 20-year-old bridge—officials hope it will be back in place by the end of August. Pullman Radio
- ➤ A flurry of candidate filings on Friday morning produced 15 applicants for three Pullman City Council seats—five filed for each spot while three competed for a Pullman School Board seat. The top two vote-getters in the council races will advance to the November general election as filings closed at 5 p.m. Friday. Pullman Radio
