EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four local schools were recognized by the Washington State Superintendent for outstanding academic achievement for the 2023-2024 school year—LaCrosse Elementary, Franklin Elementary in Pullman, St. John Elementary, and Tekoa High School received the honor. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories awarded 15 scholarships of $5,000 each to engineering and applied technology students for the 2025-2026 academic year+the award came after reviewing 249 applicants+the winners, chosen from nine universities based on academic and leadership qualities, will receive additional educational enrichment opportunities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Pullman said that Administrator Mike Urban resigned effective Monday—Urban insists he never resigned and has hired an attorney to review his situation. Mayor Francis Benjamin said communications suggest Urban resigned, and the city will start the search for a new permanent administrator with Acting City Administrator Megan Vining in place. Pullman Radio
- ➤ A federal investigation found no wrongdoing after about 250 vote-by-mail ballots went missing from the USPS in Garfield before the last general election, and Whitman County Auditor Sandy Jamison said she will work more with USPS to prevent future issues. Jamison expressed frustration over conflicting accounts from Postal officials. Pullman Radio
