- ➤ Twin County United Way held its 28th Day of Caring on the first Friday in May and united over 301 volunteers from more than 20 businesses to help 20 local non-profits complete essential projects. Volunteers worked on tasks such as landscaping, yard work, cleaning, and moving furniture & promoted a suicide prevention initiative by wearing teal 988 shirts. KLEW
- ➤ The Pullman Regional Hospital Foundation will host its 20th Annual Golf Classic at Palouse Ridge Golf Club on July 19 — the event will feature contests such as a Human Slot Machine, a rowdy Heckle Hole, long putt and drive contests, and a shot at a $20,000 putt. Pullman Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 28-year-old Pullman man was arrested on charges including domestic violence assault, intimidating a public servant, and resisting arrest after a standoff on Sunnyside Hill on Sunday when officers were called to a home on Monta Vista Circle at 10:30 a.m.—he charged an officer as SWAT entered following failed negotiations, and his family said he has been struggling with mental health issues. - ➤ The Kalispel Tribe paid tribute to missing Indigenous women at Northern Quest Casino by displaying 56 red dresses—each representing a missing woman—and offering information booths for victim support services. KXLY

- ➤ Spokane fire officials urge Inland Northwest homeowners to remove dry brush within 200 ft of their homes and pack a bag with water, food, medication, and important papers as the region prepares for a harsh wildfire season this summer—these steps can help protect homes from nearby fire risks. Residents are also encouraged to register for real-time alerts on wildfires and evacuations. KXLY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Whitman County commissioners approved an ordinance that strengthens the temporary ban on new wind farms—this measure codifies the moratorium in the zoning code to block proposals like the Harvest Hills project near Kamiak Butte. The moratorium expires in early July and may be extended if the planning commission needs more time to update wind rules. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Chad Whetzel — who was appointed after Michael Largent’s retirement — and Pullman resident Cody Finch filed to run for Whitman County Commissioner in a contested race with candidate filing open through Friday. Pullman Radio
- ➤ A portion of Spokane Street on the Washington State University campus is closed from in front of Sloan Hall between College Avenue and NE Campus Street for crews to install new chilled water distribution pipes. The closure will last through early August. Pullman Radio
