COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On April 25, 2025, the Palouse Volunteer Fire Department announced it is seeking new members for firefighting and EMS as wildfire season approaches—volunteers must attend a mini academy this spring and complete at least 18 training sessions while supporting a response to about 50 calls a year. - ➤ Camping at Kamiak Butte County Park north of Pullman will close Monday—marking the end of this weekend's camping as the Whitman County Parks Department starts water system repairs. Later this spring the entire park may close for several weeks. Pullman Radio
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, the federal government reversed the removal of legal statuses for some international students amid court challenges—universities like Idaho, Washington State, and Gonzaga confirmed one or more cases of reinstatement. Officials said they will keep watching the situation as the students continue their studies. KXLY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Moscow is taking part in an international effort to document the Palouse region’s plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, and lichen from April 25 to 28. Community members can use the iNaturalist app to capture and share photos—helping record local biodiversity. Pullman Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson signed a law that requires private utilities to file wildfire mitigation plans with the state Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) for review and approval. The law takes effect 90 days after the legislative session and aims to boost oversight following wildfire risks on utility property. Big Country News
