COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Merry Cellars in Pullman is hosting Wine and Whiskers tomorrow (11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) to benefit the Whitman County Humane Society, with $5 admission, a silent auction, door prize giveaway, and leashed pets welcome on the outdoor patio if weather permits.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oakesdale and Tekoa students teamed up for a spring production of Our Town, performing last week at Oakesdale High School & Tekoa Empire Theatre. Participants said the play built teamwork & confidence as they honed their acting skills & celebrated community spirit.  Whitman County Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County building officials issued 36 permits in the first quarter, totaling over $5.4 million, during a meeting on Monday, Apr. 20 in Colfax. The permits include a $2 million Amazon enclosure and a Washington State University anaerobic digester facility, and officials are considering more Accessory Dwelling Units.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Whitman County commissioners awarded $50,000 in economic development funds to the Pullman and Colfax Downtown Associations on Monday, April 20. Each group received $25,000 to support hiring and economic work + the county also saw increased state grants for homes assistance.  Whitman County Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics posted a $94,000 loss in March while increasing cash by $134,000 and performing 50 surgeries amid Medicare delays. Billing will return in-house on May 15 + new hires will support local billing services.  Whitman County Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Whitman County teams competed at the MacDougall Invite track meet in Colfax on Saturday, April 18, where Grangeville won the boys’ event and College Place topped the girls’ side — several athletes set personal bests.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Organizers announced the Summer of Soccer event at Gesa Pavilion in Pullman, set to offer local youth and community soccer practice sessions during the summer. More details on schedules and registration will follow soon.  KXLY
