- ➤ On April 12—at Colfax Community Church—the Quilts of Valor event honored six veterans by presenting them with a quilt, and five veterans received a Vietnam Commemorative Pin for their service during the Vietnam era. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse is hosting pop-up events in Moscow and Pullman that let teens shop free, inclusive prom attire this spring. The Pullman event starts today — 3-6:30 p.m. at 115 NW State St. #305, with more dates scheduled through May. KXLY
- ➤ St. John city park will host the 46th annual Hog Jog Run on April 26 at 9 a.m. where runners will complete a 5K course using two loops with race day registration available from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. — a separate Kids Country Mile race will run on April 25 at the St. John Golf Course as top finishers earn Piece of Pie vouchers while a Stock Show and Community Fair runs from April 24 through 27. - ➤ The free car show “Rollin’ Through the Palouse” will take place April 19 in Pullman, where a roll-in starts at 3:00 p.m., a car cruise follows at 5:00 p.m., and the show and voting will begin at 6:00 p.m. at 240 NE Kamiaken St to support local businesses. Pullman Radio
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Whitman County Library cancelled the Whitman Heritage Digital Collection project in Colfax due to federal funding cuts that led to the stoppage of its 2024—2025 initiatives as of April 1. Project Manager Hollyanna Hahn said the collection of 5,300 historical items may be preserved in a new form as discussions with Washington State University progress. Whitman County Gazette

- ➤ Today, the WSU Police honor emergency dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week from April 13 to April 19—their work in coordinating 911 responses supports the safety of students, staff and visitors on campus. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ United Way of Whitman County urged residents to contact Congress to restore federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program funding — a key resource for local nonprofits that help provide food and shelter to neighbors facing hardship. The group noted that its Community Grant cycle may be impacted, and data from 2024 shows over $43,000 was awarded to nonprofits for food services that many homebound seniors rely on. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics in Colfax is contacting patients after unusual IT activity was detected on Feb. 28 that allowed unauthorized access to personal and health data including names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers. The facility mailed letters on April 11 offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection and is adding extra security measures to protect its systems. Whitman County Gazette
