CULTURE NEWS

  • The League of Women Voters of Pullman is hosting an art reception for its 5th Annual Visual Arts Competition on Saturday, Apr. 18 at 12:00 p.m. at Neill Public Library. Student artwork themed on local decisions is on display (award winners will be honored) for visitors to meet the artists.  Pullman Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A local Earth Day cleanup will take place on Apr. 22 in Pullman — organizers invite residents to join volunteer efforts at community parks to clear litter and promote a greener neighborhood.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Port of Whitman County and Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics signed an agreement for the future clinic in St. John. Demolition was completed March 31 and cleanup funded by a $500,000 EPA grant is underway — construction will begin after environmental work is done.  Whitman County Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local autism acceptance awareness events will be held in Pullman to offer support and information to families and individuals (specific dates and locations vary), with organizers emphasizing community acceptance and inclusion.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pullman’s Greyhounds handed the Bulldogs their first loss on April 8 — winning 8-4 behind shortstop Taylor Cromie, who had one run, two hits and three RBIs. Coach Haylee Fishback said her team’s strong start and defense were key after leading 2-0 in the first inning.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Two former girls basketball coaches from Whitman County (Corey Baerlocher of Colfax and Clark Vining of Colton) will be inducted into the Washington State Girls Basketball Association Hall of Fame on May 9 at 6 p.m. at Gonzaga Prep High School in Spokane.  Whitman County Gazette
  • WSU baseball won 9-3 over University of Portland on Monday, Apr. 13 at home, with senior outfielder Max Hartman posting three RBIs and four runs + redshirt junior pitcher Brock Blatter throwing four scoreless innings to extend their five-game win streak.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Pullman's Ila Acosta competed in the Women's National Championships at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena from April 9-12 along with three Whitman County wrestlers. They faced tough opponents in both freestyle and Greco-Roman events while chasing national titles.  Whitman County Gazette
