COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Pullman Community Council on Aging will host its annual Night Out event on Friday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. at Regency in Pullman, where guests will pay $50 for a prime rib dinner, complimentary drinks + a live dollar auction that directly supports Meals on Wheels and Senior Chore Service programs. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Table Kitchen & Bar hosts its grand opening today at 11:00 a.m. inside the clubhouse at the WSU golf course. It becomes the third restaurant at Palouse Ridge Golf Club since it opened in 2008. Pullman Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Washington State University fraternity lost its recognition for five years after an investigation found it forced new members to drink alcohol and use cannabis—those who refused were given cleaning duties. Another fraternity faces investigation for allegedly chaining its house doors shut during a January event in violation of emergency safety regulations. KLEW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Whitman County Library canceled its Whitman Heritage Digital Collection project after funding was halted on April 1—this project, which housed over 5,300 historical items from the county and the Palouse, is now under legal review as the Washington Attorney General's Office filed suit against the decision. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Whitman County Planning Commission still needs one seat filled for District 2 that covers College Hill and Pioneer Hill—parts of Pullman and southern Whitman County. The board is meeting twice a month as it works on new wind farm rules and offers four-year term appointments. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Tuesday morning, the state Senate passed House Bill 1596 requiring drivers with a history of speeding to install intelligent speed assistance devices that limit vehicles to posted speed limits—drivers can exceed these limits up to three times a month. The bill, known as the BEAM Act after four crash victims, will return to the House for concurrence with Senate amendments before moving to the governor. KXLY
- ➤ The City of Pullman is hiring a new Library Services Director for Neill Public Library. Dan Owens, who began as Adult Services Manager in 2015 and served as director since 2022, will leave on May 29+applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Pullman Radio
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Experts from the Alzheimer’s Association are holding an educational program on Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia at Colfax Library today from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; they will also share the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s at Endicott Library on April 18 from 11:00 to 12:00 and at Palouse Library on April 22 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Pullman Radio
