COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Moscow Fraternal Order of the Eagles is hosting a free concert with Paradox playing rock music from the 1950s to today at the Moscow Eagles building. The event is scheduled for April 5 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.—it is open to anyone 21 and older. Pullman Radio
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Colfax resident and Washington State University student Collin Bannister was selected to represent Washington at the Western Governors' Leadership Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico from June 22—June 25. He will serve as a delegate with the Associated Students of Washington State and the Washington Student Association to discuss regional issues such as the Snake River Dams. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ Pullman junior Tatum Lloyd was named 2026 Pullman Distinguished Young Woman after a country-themed competition on March 29 that tested fitness, scholastics, self-expression, interview, and talent skills. She will move on to the state program in July and compete for a one-year scholarship to Washington State University (the event was called 'Boots and Bling'). Whitman County Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories launched a new system to improve land mobile radio and 911 communications in Pullman—developed with Whitman County Emergency Management to offer better network security and clearer radio calls for emergency responders. Whitman County Gazette
- ➤ The bathroom at the top of Steptoe Butte will not be removed this year even though Washington State Parks had planned its removal as part of a paving project—paving will begin this spring and the park stays closed until October due to February’s flood damage. Pullman Radio
- ➤ City officials resolved permitting issues at Pine Street Plaza after the Washington State Recreation Conservation Office approved conditional park uses under a nearly 25-year-old grant. The Pullman Chamber cancelled its 3rd Annual 3 Forks River & Arts Festival scheduled for next month due to permit delays and a closed footbridge from February’s flood, and the city will begin accepting permit applications on Monday—. - ➤ Whitman County Public Health confirmed the first flu death this season and urged everyone to take steps to protect themselves as flu cases surge — the region is now part of the nation’s most intense flu season in 15 years. Whitman County Gazette
