COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Imelda Morgado Stout leads free workout classes in Uniontown every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Uniontown Community Building for all ages—today’s session is taking place.  Pullman Radio
  • The Pullman Chamber of Commerce announced it has canceled the 3 Forks River and Arts Festival, set for May 17th at Pine Street Plaza and Riverwalk parking lot, because the Pine Street pedestrian bridge remains closed and a required permit has not been approved. The chamber is now refocusing on new downtown events for the fall and will refund vendor fees.  Pullman Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • The father of Dale Watson, a country singer, will headline the Return to Riverside Music Festival in Potlatch this summer at Lions Club Park on Saturday, August 2—tickets cost $35 for full day admission. Other acts performing are Cash’d Out, Ellis Bullard, Blue Highway and Blayne Mosman and The Ridge Riders.  Pullman Radio
  • Washington State University will host its 42nd Annual AMDT Fashion Show this weekend at Beasley Coliseum. The event will feature 21 senior designers, a silent auction and a beer and wine garden as part of Spring Family Weekend with doors opening at 5:00 p.m.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washington State University appointed Dr. Elizabeth Cantwell as its 12th president on the Pullman campus—making her the first female leader—after Kirk Schulz stepped down; the Board of Regents unanimously selected her from a pool of 260 candidates.  KLEW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four candidates (Brandon Burch, Shane McFarland, Levi O’Loughlin, and RJ Lott) are being considered for an open seat on the Pullman Regional Hospital Board of Commissioners after Commissioner Karen Karpman stepped down last month. The board will interview the candidates today at 6:00 p.m. at the hospital and may soon appoint one who will be up for election this fall.  Pullman Radio
  • Washington Attorney General Nick Brown filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for ending $11 billion in public health grants—actions that cost the state $159 million. The suit seeks a temporary restraining order to stop the cuts—moves that also forced cancellation of the Care-A-Van mobile clinics for underserved communities.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Washington WIC has started a pilot program so families can use their benefits online at Walmart. The program is funded by the Center for Nutrition and Health Impact and will run until the end of the year.  KXLY
