COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Crews fixed the dam at Laird Park north of Harvard and the swimming hole will be ready for use by the end of June after not operating last summer. Officials said improved potable water returns to the Laird Park campground on June 19+ giving campers safe access to water. Pullman Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Prosecutors in the U of Idaho trial plan to admit an essay Bryan Kohberger wrote for his criminology class to show his detailed knowledge of crime scenes and link his actions with video evidence, including gas station footage in Pullman, as part of their case for four murder charges. KXLY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washington State University announced today that starting next month it will pause non-essential hires, salary increases, and travel—steps aimed at cutting spending amid federal funding shifts and expected state budget cuts; all units are set to face up to a 10% budget cut next fiscal year. Pullman Radio
- ➤ Pullman Schools Superintendent Dr. Bob Maxwell announced yesterday that a private developer had agreed to create a temporary path connecting the Military Hill neighborhood with Pullman High School (the path will serve for the rest of the school year) after the original route on private property was closed for safety (crews had begun housing development nearby). He said he will work with the developer to plan a permanent path for students and residents. Pullman Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washington lawmakers are proposing to raise the gas tax to cover a billion-dollar gap in transportation funding. The Senate plan adds 6 cents and the House plan adds 9 cents per gallon—committee votes happen today and more votes follow soon as lawmakers work to keep roads safe. KXLY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Today, sports director Devin Fry discussed the upcoming WNIT Super 16 game between the Washington State Cougars and North Dakota State Bison women’s basketball teams, their first meeting in Fargo tomorrow. He said North Dakota State has shifted to a strong defense—limiting opponents to under 60 points—to help draw a lively crowd at Scheels Center. KXLY
