CRIME NEWS

  • Pullman Police arrested former WSU student Taylor Culbertson in late October after a brawl on College Hill—he will not face charges because prosecutors said they could not prove he did not act in self-defense.  Pullman Radio
  • Cesar Marmolejos, 38, a Pullman man, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault on March 15 for stabbing a 22-year-old during a fight at the Sunset Mart on Bishop Boulevard on July 1—charges of second-degree attempted murder were dropped in exchange for his plea and he was sentenced to about eight years in prison with three years of probation while held on a $250,000 bond.  Whitman County Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Palouse Conservation District will host its annual tree sale on March 22 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at its office at 1615 NE Eastgate Blvd in Pullman, where bare root stock trees and shrubs will be sold and should be planted as soon as possible.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, March 17, the Whitman County Commissioners appointed David McKeirnan, Chris Melhoss and Bill Myer to the planning commission for four-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2029. The meeting also approved vacating a portion of Cashup Avenue in Steptoe—awarded a 585,318 bid to Idaho Asphalt for Liquid Asphalt work—and planned repairs to the Steptoe Canyon Bridges.  Whitman County Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at Washington State University in Pullman are looking for dogs to join a study that will help develop a test called Drugs Optimized by Genomics for predicting adverse reactions to veterinary drugs. Participating canines must be in good health (1-12 years) (11 to 176 pounds) and comfortable with oral medications and full-day hospital stays, while owners receive a $20 Amazon gift card.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Pullman Regional Hospital's Board of Commissioners is seeking a new board member to fill the seat left vacant by Karen Karpman, who ended her seven-year service on March 6. Eligible applicants (registered Pullman voters not employed by the hospital district) must send a letter of interest with a resume to the board president at 835 Southeast Bishop Boulevard by March 27, and candidates will be interviewed at the board's regular meeting on April 2.  Whitman County Gazette
