COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The final in-person Pullman Farmers Market takes place on Sunday from 11:00 to 2:00 at the Lumberyard—after which the market will shift to an online format.  Pullman Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • William Morse, a 32 year old man from Tekoa accused of human trafficking and of raping a girl aged 15—he appeared in Spokane County on March 4—is set for trial on April 28.  Whitman County Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four young women will participate in the Potlatch Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Potlatch High School.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a March 10 workshop in Colfax, Public Works officials said rainstorms on Feb. 23 damaged roads and bridges and that roads in Districts 2 and 3 are reopening; they said the Steptoe Canyon bridges may stay closed for up to six weeks—officials will discuss repairs for District 1 on March 11.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Whitman County Commissioners appointed Chad Whetzel of Pullman to fill Michael Largent's seat after an executive session held at the Monday meeting, and he will start on March 17. His experience with zoning, state law and citizen complaints helped guide the decision (commissioners noted his strong background).  Whitman County Gazette
  • Around 300 people gathered at Cougar Plaza on Saturday, March 8 to protest federal funding cuts to science research at Washington State University — they then marched to Reaney Park to hear local speakers explain how the cuts could affect jobs, housing and public health. A separate group met on campus the day before to support the cause.  Whitman County Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Oakesdale Nighthawks finished fourth in the State tournament at Spokane Arena by beating Taholah, Pe Ell, the Sunnyside Christian Knights, and the Pateros Nannies but then losing a quarterfinal game to Neah Bay. They ended the season with 22 wins and 6 losses—junior Bradyn Henley led the team with key plays in several early games.  Whitman County Gazette
  • The Gar-Pal Vikings lost the state final on March 8 after beating the Yakama Tribal Eagles and Waterville-Mansfield Shockers to reach the championship game. The team ended its season at 24 wins and 3 losses as Neah Bay claimed its third title by a 46+36 score.  Whitman County Gazette
