ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices are climbing today as local stations report higher pump costs, and drivers may see the change at the fuel pump. Officials are monitoring the trend and advising commuters to plan ahead.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pullman School Board voted 3 — 2 on Wednesday, Feb. 25 not to renew Superintendent Bob Maxwell’s contract; he remains until the 2027 — 28 school year. Maxwell confirmed on March 3 he will serve until June 30, 2028 and the board will decide next steps soon.  Whitman County Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Whitman County commissioners approved a new code on March 2 to restrict future commercial wind energy projects (aimed at protecting residential areas and scenic lands) near Kamiak Butte. Harvest Hills will seek state review to advance its turbine farm amid ongoing local debate.  Whitman County Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Whitman Public Hospital District No. 3 increased the cash discount for uninsured patients from 20% to 30% on Wednesday, Feb. 18 due to rising fees, and board members said they will review the program further in upcoming finance committee meetings.  Whitman County Gazette

  • The Oakesdale Nighthawks beat Crosspoint Christian 55-36 on March 5 — earning a state semifinal berth — and will face No. 1 Neah Bay at 7:15 p.m. tomorrow.  Whitman County Gazette
  • Freshman Colfax Bulldogs Basketball player Allie Jenkin was nominated as the second-place contender for Sports Illustrated National Girls Athlete of the Week with her performance measured from Feb. 23 to Mar. 1 — voting closes on Mar. 8 at 11:59 p.m.  Whitman County Gazette
