COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local charity in Pullman received a grant from the NFL to expand its community programs. The organization will announce details on upcoming projects soon.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • WSU veterinary technician Denise Waiting and her Cardigan Welsh Corgi (Witton) will compete at the 150th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Feb. 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Witton earned 368 breed points in 2025 and aims to advance to the herding group.  Pullman Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local lawmakers introduced a new bill to address funding gaps in schools. The measure will be discussed in upcoming education committee meetings + it aims to balance resource allocation for students.  KXLY
  • WSU research spending reached $461.9 million in fiscal year 2025 — an increase of 14.5% over 2024 and marked its fifth consecutive year of growth. Over half of the funding came from federal grants, with the USDA providing the largest share.  Pullman Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Washington State Department of Ecology will award a $229,000 grant to the Whitman Conservation District for a water quality project on Alkali Flat Creek — the project will create a riparian buffer along 5,300 feet of the creek to improve water conditions.  Pullman Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pullman Area Volunteer Fire Department now has two new brush trucks to fight wildland fires. The trucks, *custom built* for rapid response, cost about $350,000 each and will serve from Station 1 on Sunnyside Hill and Station 3 on the north edge.  Pullman Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • The WSU Cougars will welcome Portland to Beasley Coliseum today for a game. The teams will face off as local fans watch on the court.  KXLY
